HOW WILL THIS LEGISLATION, IF PASSED AFFECT YOU!



As from the 21st June 2010 all selling of un-licensed nicotine products (E. liquids, Pre Filled Cartridges Containing Nicotine) will be banned. Companies such as Totally Wicked and The Electronic Cigarette Company would be shut down by Trading Standards.

It will leave you with no other option but to either start smoking again, go cold turkey or buy risky nicotine products from overseas.

The MHRA is today announcing an extended indication for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), to include harm reduction, which has been granted for an (NRT) inhalator, available through general sales outlets.

This a new element to the indication for ‘harm reduction’ and reflects the fact that it has become widely accepted that there are no circumstances in which it is safer to smoke than to use NRT.

The extension of the indication for NRT to include harm reduction also raises the question of the regulation of other unlicensed nicotine-containing products on the market, for example electronic cigarettes, which have not been assessed for safety, quality, and efficacy. The MHRA has launched a public consultation on whether/how to bring these products into regulation.

come dicevo non conosco il sistema sanitario britannico e tantomeno la loro normativa sanitaria, da quel che capisco la MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency che dovrebbe essere l'equivalente britannico della nostra Agenzia del Farmaco) ipotizza di inserire anche la nicotina utilizzata attraverso gli inalatori personali nel mercato regolamentato dei parafarmaci contenenti nicotina e ha lanciato questa consultazione.

premesso che:
This consultation is being made available in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Any requirement for unlicensed NCPs to be brought within medicines licensing would apply throughout the United Kingdom.

e non ho capito chi ci può partecipare (dubito i semplici cittadini) le opzioni previste sono queste:

Option 1 – Whether products containing nicotine should be considered by the Agency to be medicinal products by function and, if so, whether all unlicensed NCPs should be removed from the market within 21 days. Currently, MHRA operates a strict practice regarding the
period of notice operators are allowed to comply with under the Marketing Authorisation Regulations following the classification of a product as medicinal. Given that these Regulations do not make explicit provisions for a staged withdrawal from the market of an unlicensed medicinal product, immediate cessation of the sale or supply is usually required by the Agency, with written confirmation of the same within 21 days.

Option 2 – Whether products containing nicotine should be considered by the Agency to be medicinal products by function and, if so, whether a notice should be issued to manufacturers that all marketing must cease by a certain date e.g. June 2011. After this date enforcement action would be taken against manufacturers not holding an MA for any such product on the market. This would effectively allow manufacturers a year from the end
of public consultation to produce relevant evidence to support an application for an MA, submit it to the MHRA for approval and get the newly licensed products on to the market.

Option 3 – Do nothing and allow these unregulated products containing nicotine that have not been assessed for safety, quality and efficacy to remain on the market.

scusate, ma per chi non conosce sufficentemente bene l'inglese per capire tutto (come me), sarebbe meglio fare un piccolo sunto/traduzione.. per chi può ovviamente..

a me ad esmpio mi pare di aver capito che questa agenzia è tipo un "ministero della salute", ma più orientato ai farmaci e fin qui ci siamo, ok, ma non ho capito bene quella cosa dei numeri: sono 3 opzioni che avevano pensato ed hanno scelto la 2a ?
